once you hold one, it’s all over …

at least it was for me - so I bit the bullet and finally got one of my own

it’s now serviced and squeaky clean, sporting a new split-prism focusing bright screen and waiting for me to pick it up at the camera hospital

why then am I hesitating to go get it? perhaps because anticipation is often more delicious than reality; perhaps because with no meter, I will have to worry about figuring out exposure each and every time; perhaps because I know that it’s not the camera that matters.

I’ll get past this of course

hey there.

I thought I would be back all rested and raring to begin again with tumblr, but instead I have consolidated things rather than expand.

I am posting more or less regularly over on my smugmug site, and that suits me primarily because, well, it’s post and run.  No comments or likes are expected; it’s purely a place to share images when I feel like it.  It’s a technique that is not so friendly at a more social place like tumblr where folks sorta expect one to be, well, social, and engaged and wiling to spend a little time hearting and commenting and the like. I find I love not worrying about who I have ignored or when it was that I last checked in etc.

I am still shooting for the love of it (and occasionally some compensation ;-)), and still shooting primarily film, although I do try hard to not be so snobby about my digital camera …

I wanted to come back and report in and close things over here over time.  I see some great work being posted. Keep it up.

++  the afterhours athletes - little known and completely irrelevant factoid:  I met my husband in a dart bar - get a couple of glasses of wine in me and I was especially good at hitting those triple 20’s, 19’s and 17’s.

++  my favorite things - it should not be a surprise, given my posting habits, that I adore polaroids.  I adore even the not so amazing ones and think they trump almost all other photos (expect for medium format film :-)).  I am always surprised when others don’t share this love …  but watch this lovely little piece of wordless filmmaking
